Excerpt
Excerpt Joshua Whiton, an NCSU engineering graduate, and TransLoc Inc. software engineers developed a web-based passenger information system for use by mass transit providers and their passengers, beginning with the Wolfline, the transit system used at NC State.
Their Transit Visualization System™ (TVS) provides real-time tracking of the buses on their routes over the Internet. For mass transit operators and city governments, TVS could put the mass in mass transit by eliminating the unknown – when is a bus going to be at a particular stop?
“I hope that these systems will increase rider awareness of the benefits of mass transit,” Whiton said, “reduce wait times at bus stops, improve safety, and reduce exposure to the elements.” He hopes to have a nationwide impact in the transportation industry.
About TransLoc Inc.: TransLoc specializes in the collection and presentation of real-time transit information. Their technology continuously displays the location of vehicles and animates their motion against a detailed map of recognizable buildings and landmarks. Already, the technology is helping public transit riders save time, stay safe and have more control over their schedules while enabling transit administrators to manage their fleets with unprecedented clarity. www.transloc.com. |
