Excerpt
Excerpt GETMAIN gets a main storage area of the size that is indicated by the LENGTH or FLENGTH option. The address of the area is returned in the pointer reference that is supplied in the SET option. Because no default initialization is done, you must use the INITIMG option if you require the storage to be initialized to a specific bit configuration. |

Claims
1
A method for allocating memory freed by applications in a computer system having an operating system (O/S), said method comprising:
a) designating a status of said one or more freed memory units previously associated with an application as available for reuse;
b) organizing one or more freed memory units having said available for reuse status into one or more free memory pools, wherein freed memory units in a pool are directly allocated to an application requiring backing physical memory store without the O/S deleting data in the freed memory units.
Relevance
FREEMAIN frees memory units, GETMAIN allocates them without initialization. Key point needing clarification: does "previously associated" unambiguously imply "not currently associated"? It appears that FREEMAIN does not necessarily dissociate storage from the application (though the act of swapping could be argued to have this effect).
