I found the perfect prior art: USPN 5,490,216 ("System for Software Registration"). It's assigned to Uniloc and I became aware of it because it is being asserted against Microsoft, Sony, and the like. See Uniloc v. Microsoft, decided Jan. 4, 2011. This also sounds like iTunes. That program ties software to device IDs and denies access when a user attempts to access the same media through a different device. Maybe someone can look for iTunes prior art. PEER TO PATENT ACTIVITY
