A method implemented on a computing device with an associated display, the method comprising:
"sending identity information to a first server"
This was done by the Spinway application which was distributed to millions of users of the Bluelight.com free Internet Service in 1999 through 2001.
"receiving information corresponding to a video file from one of the first server and a second server"
The Spinway CD's which were distrubuted in K-Mart stores contained a K-Mart commercial performed by the country group "The Judds" - additional videos would be downloaded during idle time while the user was connected to the Internet.
"scheduling one or more actions at a first time corresponding to first scheduling information, the one or more actions including the action of playing the video file; and playing the video file."
The videos would then be scheduled to be played while the user was dialing up the connect to the Internet according to various marketing preferences - such as time of day, geographic region, user interests; etc. The videos were in the form of mpegs and or macromedia flash animations.
If a video was being played while the user was connecting to the Internet, the video would continue to play even after the connection was established, i.e., for a predetermined duration; then if the user had clicked on the video - the users browser would be directed to a specfied site based on that that particular ad. Thus the user could click on a video ad while the sofware was dialing - and be directed to the advertisers site upon being connected.

The problem it attempts to solve, has already been resolved in commercially available products such as MS Outlook; where unobtrusively a window is scheduled to appear to notify of new mail messages based on a login id. Is the novelty here that the file is shown is a video file?PEER TO PATENT ACTIVITY
