This seems to correspond to a common method for moving through selection and display of information in many databases. For example, an Amazon shopping page gives a choice of filters by brand, price, seller, and others. As each selection is made from a category, a new display appears showing the choice that was made, which is referred to as the "data selector" in the application. Amazon does not have anything corresponding exactly to a "lens" for selecting what to display, but it is common in many other database applications.
The application states that it is specific to manufacturing. It states that "Manufacturing applications are used for controlling and monitoring processes." However this restriction plays no role in subsequent discussion. When a shopper is selecting among product configurations that will be made to order, such as a Dell computer, that qualifies as a "manufacturing process control," with the control by a buyer, not an employee of Dell.
The application Claim 1 also has some specific restrictions on the geometry of information display, such as successive selections be shown "linear and sequential." Amazon's page is linear but not sequential. PEER TO PATENT ACTIVITY
